Exclusively women on the jury of a creative award? Yes, it exists! At the international Gerety Awards, for the fifth time in a row, an all-female jury is reviewing works from advertising, design and creation – and denkwerk is also represented this year: Executive Director Strategy, Bettina Lange, enriches the Berlin commission!
The Gerety Awards are named after Frances Gerety, who in 1948 wrote the globally celebrated slogan "A diamond is forever" for the world's largest diamond manufacturer "De Beers". But why is a creative award juried exclusively by women so special?
Even though the percentage of women in the creative industry is higher than in the economy as a whole, it is also dominated by men – and especially in management positions: The share of female executives in advertising agencies is only 21 percent in 2022.
The founders of the Gerety Awards, Lucia Ongay and Joe Brooks, want to counteract this trend. The award is not only meant to provide more visibility for female creatives, but above all to highlight their status. This does not mean, however, that only works with women as the target group can be submitted and judged at the Gerety Awards. Rather, the focus is on how a female audience evaluates creativity and which advertisements are most appealing. Since about 80 per cent of all purchasing decisions are made by women, the Gerety Awards thus create a benchmark that not only reflects market reality, but at the same time redefines the standard traditionally applied to advertising.
The locations for the Gerety Awards in 2023 include London, Chicago, Mumbai. At the Grety Awards jury location in Berlin, Bettina is part of the German jury. Together with jury president Kathrin Jesse, 15 other creative people from Germany will judge international works.
Those who would like to take part in the Gerety Awards can submit their work until 03 March. More information on the conditions of entry, award categories and the international jurors can be found at the
